Hondon de las Nieves
can be found nestled between las Sierras de L'Agaiat to the North and to the South, las Sierras de Crevillente, just 27klms from the Costa Blanca coastline and a short 30 minute drive
to the International Airport in Alicante. Hondon de las Nieves is a small village, inland, west of the Alicante Region.

.

Hondon Nieves itself has a population of around 1700 people, who don't exactly rush anywhere... it is a typically maana culture here. Village life centres on the main palm-lined 'plaza' with pastel-shaded buildings, bars, restaurants and the Ayuntamiento (town hall). Several bars serve tasty tapas 'al-fresco' looking onto the plaza, which provides a focal point for the many and varied fiestas that take place throughout the year, although a small village Hondon de la Nieves hosts a large variety of shops, restaurants and amenities.

The village bustles most of the time particularly market days Wednesday and Saturday, when local residents venture out to buy weekly produce. Many visitor come from Elche, Aspe and other nearby places.

The village bustles most of the time particularly market days Wednesday and Saturday, when local residents venture out to buy weekly produce. Many visitor come from Elche, Aspe and other nearby places. Its nearest city is Elche (City of Palms) to the south east or Crevillente (20 min's drive). Nieves and its very close neighbouring village 'Hondon de los Frailes' are typical rural Spanish villages, small, quiet, quaint, friendly and have changed very little over the years.

Hondon de las Nieves is rich in agriculture, its lush green unspoilt valleys yield all variety of fruit and vegetables with its major productions being grapes, almonds and olives. You will also see many other root crops and fruits grown here, oranges, lemons, pomegranates, artichokes, tomatoes, and onions.
Nieves also boasts a world class"Bodegas Cerda", a local and proud wine merchant. The shop/museum is well worth a look whilst sampling their excellent wines and tapas.

The spectacular mountains are covered with pine forests on their southern flanks and criss-crossed with cycle and
walking paths. It is a nature lover's paradise with abundant flora and fauna as well as eagles and wild boar for the vigilant.

For cyclists: The Hondon valley provides numerous routes for bikers of all standards and there is a relatively new flat cycling track between the two Hondon villages. Almost without fail many Spanish cycle clubs visit the Hondon area each weekend. The local mountains are ideal for cycling and mountain bikes as well as for those walking enthusiasts. Hondon has been part of the country's major tour ''Vuelta Espaa''. There are serious ''pedal pushers'', all geared up, with bikes that probably cost a few months wages. They most often come over the very long and steep Albatera mountain ranges into the Hondon Valley.  They then stop off at the local bars and restaurants for refreshment and a rest. It gives the village a real buzz on weekend mornings.

Culture: Both Hondon villages have new multipurpose cultural centres for music, bands, and theatre and community events. They usually post a time-table / posters around the village. During the summer months most events take place outside in the Plazas. Some are religious festivals with prayer, dancing and singing. Others, like New Year or the medieval market encompass juggling, dancing and street acts with themed markets.

Horse riding: For those who like horse riding there are many fantastic tracks through these lovely Hondon Mountains and pine forests. The local stables and horse owners are always grateful of help with horse-care in exchange for a ride or tuition. With over 310 days of glorious sunshine per year it's no wonder people are actively looking to live in the Hondon Valley, sparsely populated, quiet, quaint and friendly. The Hondon`s have changed very little over the years. You can marvel at the mountain views, walk through acres of vineyards or almond groves or enjoy the al fresco lifestyle in this beautiful area or simply enjoy a perfect lifestyle without stress.
